The next day, we had a room booked at a hotel in Bangor, but since we couldn't check in until 3pm we took a detour to Acadia National Park. On our East coast trip 6 years ago, we spent a couple nights camping in a Acadia and loved it so much we decided we had to at least go back for a quick visit. We ended up driving to the top of Cadillac Mountain, which is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and a spot we didn't make it to last time. The photos really don't do justice to the view - it was really amazing. Riley was especially excited to climb on the rocks and to learn about the volcanic influences in the creation of the mountain, since he has been learning a lot about volcanoes from library books lately.
It was so good when we finally were able to get in our hotel. We were craving fresh fruit so bad after three days of camping and fast food, so we stopped at a local farmers market and the grocery store and had a delicious feast of fresh fruit and crusty bread and butter after we all got showered and in jammies. It was a perfect mid-week refresher!
In the morning we got back on the highway and headed to Fundy . . . .
