Scary

Poor Riley has had a tough week. One Sunday he started with a low fever and so we kept an eye on him and gave him motrin and that seemed to help fine enough. Then Sunday night he woke up around 10:30pm rolling around like he was in pain, sobbing, and saying strange things. He had spiked a fever again, so we gave him more motrin and finally calmed him down enough to sleep. Monday he woke with a fever again, this time around 103, but still no other symptoms, so we continued the meds and cool baths and overall he was acting fine as long as his fever was down. Yesterday afternoon he woke up after napping only about an hour and was sobbing so I ran up and he was radiating heat and sweating. His temp was over 105, so I immediately made arrangements for Naomi and took him in to the doctor. He was not himself at all, his eyes were droopy and glazed, and he was burning hot to the touch. The doctor ran tests for all the bacterial infections (strep, ear, bladder) and everything came back negative. So we decided to get a blood sample to just check on everything. Poor guy was so brave. It was hard to see him like that. The doctor called today and it looks like everything is normal other than he has a virus. So after all that, we just need to wait it out until it passes and try to keep him comfortable. He is doing a lot better today, and I am hoping by tomorrow he will be done with the fevers. That is the hardest thing as a parent to feel so helpless when your baby is sick and you can't make it better.
