Today we started picking the pears from our huge Bartlett Pear tree. We were able to get the lower half done today and plan on tackling the upper half tomorrow. We got three large tubs of pears already! It was fun working together as a family and teaching the kids how to help. Brad and I would pick the pears and drop them into piles and the kids helped pick up the pears and carry them to the buckets. Riley kept saying, "This is hard work!" They also had a lot of fun climbing up and down the ladder. Time to start pulling out all my yummy pear recipes! Here are a couple pics from this morning.

To try and prolong ripening we spread out the pears in the basement rather than keep them piled together in the buckets. Look how many we have and that's only half the tree!

Wow, that is a lot of pears!!! They look like really nice pears, too. Do you spray your tree, or just lucky to not have any bugs or disease? We have a small home orchard with about 20-25 fruit trees, mostly apples and pears and four unidentified trees that bloom in the spring with the others but haven't produced any fruit. But all of the apple trees have issues and much of the fruit on the pear trees looks like it may have some issues, too, though I think the pears are safe to eat still.
