End of Summer, Beginning of Fall

We have been soaking in these last few summer moments before preschool starts and the cooler fall weather kicks in for good.

Brad took the kids in the pool for one last swim on Labor Day before it closes for the season. We are so proud of Riley for learning how to swim independently this year! (wearing floaties on his arms, of course) and for both kids for being brave enough to go down the big slide!

Here is a quick video clip and some photos:

We also had Awana orientation this past week for the kids. Riley is starting his second year of Cubbies, and Naomi is joining Puggles. I will have to get a picture of Naomi in her puggles shirt when we go Wednesday. She was very excited to be included in Awana this year and to get her very own bag and shirt.

On Thursday, I took Riley for his 4 year well-child check. Everything looked healthy and great! I was surprised that he wasn't even close to 40 lbs yet, so he may not be big enough for a booster seat by the time the baby comes after all...we'll have to figure that out! The doctor had him draw her a picture, so he drew an action picture with a volcano and lava coming out and hitting the rocks. She was very impressed that he could draw a picture and tell a story with it. He had to get 4 shots, and didn't even cry until the very last one, which the nurse said was the most painful one. What a brave boy! After the appointment, I took him out to lunch at a diner that Brad and I used to frequent back in our high school dating years, and treated him to "heaven in a cup" (the best strawberry milkshake in the world). It was fun to have some one on one time with my boy before he heads to school in a week.

We had a great summer, but are looking forward to all the exciting things that are in store for us this fall!
